Case studies

Simon Robinson, CEO, NED, Angel Investor & Executive Coach

Simon was at an interesting crossroads in his career following a successful raise through the leisure & travel retail sector where he had been a CEO, NED and Angel investor. His challenge was in establishing a portfolio career which he wanted to include consultancy, coaching and investing.

Through the sessions we worked together we took time to deep dive into the clients values and beliefs which were important to them to ensure that any future work would align to these values. The client liked to be challenged which I did in a positive and encouraging manner to helped the client to think about how they could create a positive future aligned to their values. I was also able to recommend a number of executive coaching courses to help them gain accreditation and credibility to start offering executive coaching

Jan originally invested in coaching as they wanted to secure their first NED position and transition from their executive career to a portfolio career for the last 5 years of work before retirement. However, in the first session they confirmed that they had been headhunted for an exciting role in the Middle East with an offer that was too good to miss.

On the basis of this we worked on an initial 90-day strategy and tactics for how they could hit the ground running in their new role and being effective from the start. I provided an open and safe space for the client to explore the considerations regarding the new role and environment they would be working in. The output of the sessions was an actionable and concise 1-page plan that they subsequently used as their road map to success.

The outcome of our session was that the client wanted to continue working with me within their new role and left the following recommendation.

Jason had a specific challenge of securing their first NED position which they had targeted in 6 months, which is generally the earliest time a candidate can achieve this and on board to the organisation. They had recently taken the decision to take voluntary redundancy from their role so needed a plan of attack to move forward into the next chapter of their career.

In our coaching sessions we worked on really understanding what kind of work, company and industry they were passionate about to ensure that their next role would be one for the longer term future. The client had been open to strong challenges from me as their coach to help them define a plan for moving forward. As part of gaining a greater understanding of their strengths and areas of development, I used psychometric assessments which the client really resonated with as they helped to reflect the true essence of how they liked to work and their approach to their professional life.

On the conclusion of our work together they left the following recommendation.
